The fruit of a permanent partnership between MGM and the state-owned Poly Culture Group, this new museum occupies an upstairs gallery off the Portuguese-inspired grand plaza at <a href="https://www.mgm.mo?destinasian" target="_blank" rel="noopener">MGM Macau</a>. The more than 1,700-square-meter space brings history to life with the aid of LED walls and interactive display cases, spotlighting the cultural treasures of China while assessing the nation’s interactions with the wider world. Running through September 2025, the inaugural exhibition focuses on the Maritime Silk Road through a priceless trove of over 200 artifacts and artworks gathered from around the country. On loan from Beijing’s Poly Art Museum are four bronze animal heads that once adorned a fountain at the Old Summer Palace, part of a set of 12 personifying the Chinese zodiac. Look out for porcelain wares salvaged from a Yuan-dynasty shipwreck, Tang-era tricolor statues, and a Qing-era guangcai bowl and plate bearing a Farsi inscription and Islamic-inspired motifs. There’s also an unexpected local touch in Aeneas and Anchises—an early 17th-century tapestry that may have been made for Francisco Mascarenhas, the first Portuguese governor of <a href="https://destinasian.com/luxury-travel/spotlight/discover-macau" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Macau</a>.
