<h5><strong>Why stay?</strong></h5>
<p>Indonesia’s inaugural Park Hyatt property, <a href="https://www.hyatt.com/en-US/hotel/indonesia/park-hyatt-jakarta/cgkph?DestinAsian">Park Hyatt Jakarta</a> opened its doors in mid-2022. Here, it&#8217;s all about understated luxury: service is quick and attentive but never intrusive, while the sleek, pared-back design by Tina Norden of London-based studio Conran and Partners comes with local artistic touches. It’s housed within the upper half of a 37-story tower that affords stellar views of the Jakarta skyline and landmarks like the nearby National Monument (a.k.a. Monas).</p>
<h5><strong>The neighborhood</strong></h5>
<p><a href="https://www.hyatt.com/en-US/hotel/indonesia/park-hyatt-jakarta/cgkph?DestinAsian">Park Hyatt Jakarta</a> lies some distance from the international five-star lodgings clustered around the main avenues of Jalan Thamrin and Sudirman. The hotel is sited on the northern fringes of the low-rise Menteng district, just down the street from the U.S. Embassy and a 20-plus minute walk to both Monas and the National Museum of Indonesia. A few paces away, Gondangdia Station offers convenient access to the Old Town district, Kota Tua, via the KRL commuter rail line.</p>

<h5><strong>The feel</strong></h5>
<p>The hotel’s design narrative was inspired by the layers of an Indonesian rain forest. Darker hues predominate in the arrival lobby and spaces closer to ground level; lighter shades found in the upper stories allude to sunlight filtering through the jungle canopy. Locally sourced natural materials such as copper, timber, and black stone are used throughout the public and private spaces. Guests stepping into the <a href="https://www.parkhyattjakartarestaurants.com/restaurants/conservatory-restaurant?DestinAsian">23rd-floor Sky Lobby</a> will be greeted by a stylized map of the archipelago made with Javanese <em>kawung</em> batik motifs – this is part of an in-house art collection, curated by Hadiprana Design, that spotlights local talents like abstract expressionist painter John Raymond.</p>
<h5><strong>Guest quarters</strong></h5>
<p>Rooms at <a href="https://www.hyatt.com/en-US/hotel/indonesia/park-hyatt-jakarta/cgkph?DestinAsian">Park Hyatt Jakarta</a> start at a generous 57 square meters; suites are located on the corners of the building. The floor-to-ceiling windows in accommodations with a “Monas View” frame vistas that stretch as far north as Jakarta Bay when conditions allow. Indonesian culture comes to the fore in an ornate Sumatran headdress and Balinese woodwork, as well as a hand-carved <em>congklak</em> game board under the 55-inch TV. The hefty work desk, fashioned from the trunk of a rain tree, provides enough space for two. Notably, Norden has split up the bathroom into three separate spaces with their own sinks. One features a deep soaking Duravit tub; another contains a capacious rain shower; and the powder room has an electronic Kohler toilet controlled via a touchscreen remote. (There’s also a dressing room with ample storage and a full-length mirror.) It must be said that a little noise from the neighboring railway line is still perceptible indoors; light sleepers should request a room or suite facing away from the train tracks.</p>
<h5><strong>Food and drink</strong></h5>
<p>As one would expect of a Park Hyatt, the quality of food is consistently high across the hotel’s outlets. The <a href="https://www.parkhyattjakartarestaurants.com/restaurants/conservatory-restaurant?DestinAsian">Sky Lobby–level Conservatory</a> comprises four interconnected venues: the residential-style <a href="https://www.parkhyattjakartarestaurants.com/restaurants/conservatory-restaurant?DestinAsian">Library</a>, the linear <a href="https://www.parkhyattjakartarestaurants.com/restaurants/conservatory-restaurant?DestinAsian">Living Room</a> with semi-private seating areas, the <a href="https://www.parkhyattjakartarestaurants.com/restaurants/conservatory-restaurant?DestinAsian">Patisserie</a> for beautifully made desserts; and Veranda, an open-air terrace. Conservatory’s menu balances Western and Indonesian comfort food with healthy low-carb choices, such as slow-roasted duck breast with Malang apple and baby romaine lettuce. One floor below, the all-day <a href="https://www.parkhyattjakartarestaurants.com/restaurants/dining-room?DestinAsian">Dining Room</a> specializes in authentic Javanese and regional Italian fare made with seasonal ingredients. Breakfast here includes an antipasti spread and a changing selection of à la carte dishes. Go for the satisfying <em>lontong sayur</em>: pressed rice cakes in coconut-milk soup with julienned chayote, bone-on chicken, sweet braised tofu, and a spicy deep-fried egg. Crowning the Park Hyatt is the two-story <a href="https://www.parkhyattjakartarestaurants.com/bars/the-bar?DestinAsian">Kita Restaurant and Bar</a>, where patrons can sip on sake, <em>shochu</em>, or negronis with yuzu gin and order everything from perfectly fried tempura to soba and <em>robatayaki</em>. But the sushi is the real standout: chef Takeumi Hiraoka does not skimp on the size of the sliced Hokkaido scallop and serves what may well be Jakarta’s best <em>amaebi</em> (sweet shrimp) sashimi.</p>

<p>At the <a href="https://www.hyatt.com/park-hyatt/en-US/cgkph-park-hyatt-jakarta?_gl=1*1adt6z8*_ga*NDY1NzUyMjc4LjE3NTM1ODUyNTI.*_ga_3R5SJEDWK4*czE3NTM1ODUyNTIkbzEkZzEkdDE3NTM1ODUzODQkajkkbDAkaDA.*_gcl_au*MjAyMzcyNDIyNy4xNzUzNTg1MjUy?DestinAsian">35th-floor spa</a>, male and female zones have their own hydrotherapy pools, sauna and steam room, and a relaxation lounge overlooking the city. The 2.5-hour Indonesian Rejuvenation experience combines a facial and gentle massage with a Javanese betel-leaf scrub—the latter was inspired by the property’s address on Jalan Kebon Sirih (literally “Betel Grove Road”).</p>
<h5><strong>Family matters</strong></h5>
<p>Given the prevalence of business travelers in the city’s five-star hotels, the absence of a kids’ club should come as no surprise. But <a href="https://www.hyatt.com/en-US/hotel/indonesia/park-hyatt-jakarta/cgkph?DestinAsian">Park Hyatt Jakarta</a> <em>does</em> welcome guests of all ages: the Conservatory menu has a children’s section, family-oriented stay packages come with certain activities, and babysitting services are offered at an additional fee.</p>
<h5><strong>Sustainability cred</strong></h5>
<p>Used soap bars from the guest rooms are transformed into light detergent in the back-of-house areas, while plastic packaging has been swapped out for biodegradable alternatives such as bamboo- and cassava-based substitutes. Excess food is regularly donated to the Emmanuel Foundation for distribution to marginalized and underprivileged local residents.</p>
<h5><strong>What else? </strong></h5>
<p>World of Hyatt members with Globalist status are entitled to the nightly social hour, which guarantees two complimentary drinks and a plate of hors d’oeuvres for each guest at Conservatory or The Bar, also perched on the 23rd floor.</p>
