<h2><strong>Why stay?</strong></h2>
<p>Southeast Asia’s first hotel under The Unbound Collection by Hyatt, <a href="https://www.hyatt.com/unbound-collection/en-US/cgkub-keraton-at-the-plaza?src=corp_lclb_google_seo_cgkub&amp;utm_source=google&amp;utm_medium=organic&amp;utm_campaign=lmr">Keraton at The Plaza</a> is a serene all-Club property that melds contemporary luxury with a palpable sense of place; it interprets Javanese culture (inspired by the nearly 300-year-old <em>keraton</em> palace in Yogyakarta) with a modern twist. Following a pandemic-induced hiatus, the newly rebranded Keraton reopened at the end of 2024 after a soft renovation that leaned more deeply into local heritage. Couples and business travelers will appreciate the hotel’s tranquil, intimate vibe and convenient downtown location.</p>
<h3><strong>The neighborhood</strong></h3>
<p><a href="https://www.hyatt.com/unbound-collection/en-US/cgkub-keraton-at-the-plaza?src=corp_lclb_google_seo_cgkub&amp;utm_source=google&amp;utm_medium=organic&amp;utm_campaign=lmr">Keraton at The Plaza</a> enjoys a prime position in <a href="https://destinasian.com/category/indonesia/jakarta" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Jakarta</a>’s central business district. A short stroll from the 1960s Welcome Monument, the hotel is connected to the gleaming Plaza Indonesia mall, which contains a surfeit of high-end designer brands and restaurants spread across six floors. Also part of the mixed-use complex is The Plaza Office Tower and <a href="https://destinasian.com/grand-hyatt-jakarta-city-icon">Grand Hyatt Jakarta</a>, Keraton’s much larger sister hotel. Avoiding the infamous rush-hour traffic is possible thanks to the fast-expanding public transit system: an MRT exit sits right outside Plaza Indonesia, as does a major stop for the TransJakarta BRT, whose separated bus lanes help speed up journeys around the city.</p>

<h4><strong>The feel</strong></h4>
<p>Palatial yet understated. Smartly attired doormen in <em>blangkon</em> headgear welcome guests into the more than double–height lobby, where batik motifs show up on intricate lattice screens and earthen-hued carpets. Statement pieces here include semi-abstract wooden sculptures alluding to dance movements plus supersize versions of <em>kacumas</em>, a carved pyramidal box and royal Javanese symbol representing cleanliness and forgiveness. Hadiprana Design, the long-standing Jakarta studio behind Keraton’s original look, was brought back for the refurbishment. The lobby area has been updated with new artworks and an elegant bar counter with seating, while the residential-style guest rooms boast new furnishings, light fixtures, batik-patterned fabric backdrops, and extra-large king beds. Upstairs, the building’s square footprint and shorter corridors give the sensation that you’re retreating to your own private apartment.</p>
<h5><strong>Guest quarters</strong></h5>
<p><a href="https://www.hyatt.com/unbound-collection/en-US/cgkub-keraton-at-the-plaza/rooms?DestinAsian">Keraton’s rooms and suites</a> are dispersed between the eighth and 22nd floors; the rest of the building is reserved for luxury residences. Light-filled accommodations start at a generous 64 square meters, and the sense of space is amplified by the 3.86-meter ceilings, among the highest for rooms in any Jakarta hotel. Smart TVs, portable wireless chargers, and Illy espresso machines are standard features, as are bathrooms fitted with double vanities, a freestanding Jaxson tub, a rain shower, and a touchscreen-controlled Kohler toilet. The quartet of <a href="https://www.hyatt.com/unbound-collection/en-US/cgkub-keraton-at-the-plaza/rooms/KGST??DestinAsian">Keraton Suites</a>, each one measuring 140 square meters, also come with a powder room and a Dyson hair dryer.</p>
<h6><strong>Food and drink</strong></h6>
<p>Conceived as a lobby-side living room, <a href="https://www.hyatt.com/unbound-collection/en-US/cgkub-keraton-at-the-plaza/dining?DestinAsian">The Lounge</a> serves tea, coffee, and traditional bite-size snacks, along with pastries like “crotabak”—a cross between a croissant and the thick <em>martabak</em> pancakes sold by street food vendors. All meals are taken at The Club lounge (revamped by interior design firm GondoJules) that spans almost the entire seventh floor. Buffet counters heave with both local and international fare: think duck a l’orange, baba ghanoush, and <em>gado-gado</em> salad. Rotating à la carte menus, meanwhile, offer dishes in small portions so you can try several in one sitting. Indonesian specialties include beef rendang and stir-fried <em>mie lethek</em>, or Yogyakarta-style cassava noodles. Breakfast options range from <em>bubur gudeg mercon</em>—a congee featuring stewed young jackfruit, spicy beef skin, and chicken—to eggs benny with shrimp-paste sambal hollandaise and French toast topped by whipped coconut cream and pineapple compote. The Club contains a cozy bar area that leads to a private dining room and a Chef’s Table for teppanyaki dinners on Friday nights and weekends. As room rates are full board, don’t skimp on lunch before checkout.</p>

<h6><strong>Wellness factor</strong></h6>
<p>Keraton at The Plaza may have its own glassed-in gym with Precor training equipment on the seventh floor, but guests can also access the recreational facilities at the neighboring Grand Hyatt via an all-weather connection one level below. The corridor leads directly to the Club Olympus facility, which comprises tennis courts, a salt-chlorinated lagoon pool set in lush gardens with a jogging track, and an expansive fitness center.</p>
<h6><strong>Family matters</strong></h6>
<p>While the place is primarily a business hotel, Keraton offers a changing roster of daily kids’ activities like canvas bag painting and hand puppet–making. Culture-minded families staying over the weekend can also look forward to a gamelan performance on Saturdays and welcome dances at dinnertime, both of which are held at The Club.</p>
<h6><strong>Sustainability cred</strong></h6>
<p>The hotel uses Nordaq filtered water bottled at the nearby Grand Hyatt, while bath amenities by the Bali-based Republic of Soap brand are supplied in large-format pump bottles. Keraton champions local Indonesian makers in myriad ways. The Club and The Lounge showcase modern <em>jamu</em> (herbal tonics) by Acaraki, fine cheeses from Yogyakarta’s Mazaraat Artisan Cheese (try the Tomme de Merapi), and aromatic loose leaf blends by Tema Tea, including a Keraton exclusive with notes of clove and ginger. Staff uniforms are the work of high-profile fashion designer Didit Hediprasetyo.</p>
<h6><strong>What else?</strong></h6>
<p>The Lounge hosts free-flow cheese and wine nights every Thursday and Friday, and the ornamental pieces on its shelves can be purchased next door at central Jakarta’s sole House of Hadiprana boutique. This showroom also stocks reed diffusers, notebooks with batik-patterned covers, textiles, and leather-and-rattan tote bags. Together with Tanamera Coffee, Keraton runs manual brewing masterclasses on weekends at the lobby’s bar.</p>
