Services will be operated daily in codeshare cooperation with Qatar Airways.

Indonesia’s flag carrier has announced plans to start nonstop services between its hub at Jakarta’s Soekarno-Hatta International Airport and Doha this spring. The airline says that Boeing 777-300 aircraft in a dual-class configuration, with 26 seats in business class and 367 in economy, will be deployed for the route.

From April 4, outbound flight GA900 will depart Jakarta at 6:20 p.m. and arrive in Doha at 11 p.m. local time; the return service, GA901, is then scheduled to take off from Hamad International Airport at 2:25 a.m. to touch down in Jakarta at 3 o’clock that afternoon. Both journeys will take an estimated eight hours and 35 to 40 minutes.

Catering to a growing demand for direct air links between Jakarta and Doha, this route launch marks Garuda’s return to the Persian Gulf after more than a decade. The airline previously served the UAE in the early 2010s, when Dubai and then Abu Dhabi were intermediate stops for flights to and from Amsterdam.

Irfan Setiaputra, President and CEO of Garuda Indonesia, said in a statement, “There are strong business, tourism, and cultural ties between Indonesia and Qatar, and we believe this new service will further boost those activities between the two countries while offering easier access for travelers from Qatar to Indonesia, which is now one of the fastest-growing economic centers in the world.”

For Garuda Indonesia customers, the codeshare agreement with Qatar Airways promises easier access to the latter’s extensive network of over 170 destinations, which encompasses places throughout the Middle East as well as Europe, Africa, and the Americas. Conversely, those traveling with Qatar Airways can leverage Garuda’s strong domestic connectivity—the airline flies from Soekarno-Hatta to 32 destinations across the archipelago.

Qatar Airways currently operates three daily flights to both Jakarta and Bali, and has recently launched thrice-weekly flights to Medan. Thanks to the new Garuda flight and codeshare partnership, passengers can take advantage of smoother connections within the two carriers’ combined network.
