<p>Fresh from a multiphase makeover that has enhanced its accommodations, ballroom, and food and drink offerings, this Orchard Road area stalwart feels more compelling than ever—hewing to the St. Regis brand’s signature services and amenities (24-hour butler service and nightly Champagne sabering among them) while presenting a smartly updated look behind its glass-and-steel facade.</p>
<h3><strong>The Neighborhood</strong></h3>
<p>Sitting around the corner from the western end of Orchard Road, <a href="http://stregissingapore.com/?DestinAsian" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The St. Regis Singapore</a> has a best-of-both-worlds location: a discreet address in the upscale Tanglin neighborhood that’s just a stroll from the action along the city’s most iconic shopping belt. The verdant expanse of the UNESCO-listed <a href="https://destinasian.com/attractions-singapore-botanic-gardens" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Singapore Botanic Gardens</a> is a 15-minute walk away, while the nearby Orchard Boulevard MRT station provides easy access to the CBD and marquee attractions like Gardens by the Bay.</p>

<h4><strong>The Feel</strong></h4>
<p>In a word: opulent. Even before stepping into the hotel’s lobby, guests are greeted by a monumental Botero bronze sculpture, just one of the 70-plus pieces of art in the hotel’s impressive art collection. Inside, paintings by prominent regional artists such as Lee Man Fong and Georgette Chen vie for attention with crystal chandeliers and expanses of gleaming marble. Expect to rub shoulders with a mix of expense-account business travelers and discerning leisure seekers.</p>
<h5><strong>Guest Quarters</strong></h5>
<p>Completed late last year, the hotel’s first major renovation since its 2008 opening brought back original designers FBEYE to reimagine the 299 rooms and suites. Trading old-school ornate for a more contemporary residential feel, guest quarters now feature details inspired by the nearby Botanic Gardens (views of which can be enjoyed from any of the higher west-facing rooms). While the original burl-wood wall panels behind the beds have been retained, everything else has been poshly updated, from the blond-oak herringbone floors to a natural palette of greens and blues accented by subtle floral motifs and crystal-cut glass lamps. Bathrooms accented by veiny French marble come with freestanding tubs, double vanities, and botanical toiletries from Sachajuan and Ren. Upgraded in-room tech includes day and night blinds that slide open at the touch of a button. Spaciousness remains a highlight. Drenched in natural light thanks to nearly floor-to-ceiling windows, even the smallest accommodations are a generous 52 square meters, while suites start at 80 square meters, complete with a separate living room and sitting area.</p>
<h6><strong>Food and Drink</strong></h6>
<p>While the hotel has retained its popular Cantonese restaurant, <a href="https://www.yantingrestaurant.com/?DestinAsian" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Yan Ting</a>, and tempura-centric <em>omakase</em> venue <a href="https://www.millenniumhotels.com/en/dinings/asia/singapore/tentsuru/?DestinAsian" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Tentsuru</a>, the rest of the culinary program has been retooled as part of the transformation. The standout is <a href="https://www.sophia.com.sg/?DestinAsian" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Sophia</a>, which replaced the Astor Grill last October. Here, Puglian chef Angelo Sergio oversees an elevated Italian menu of dishes from across the country—think hickory-smoked tagliatelle with porcini and veal jus from Abruzzo; Piedmontese <em>vitello tonnato</em>; a Sicilian red prawn carpaccio accentuated by raspberry gel and plankton oil; and an oven-baked burrata ravioli that is a love letter to his grandmother’s recipe book. A 70-label Italian wine list complements the experience.</p>
<p>Also new is the lobby-side <a href="https://www.thetearoom.com.sg/?DestinAsian" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Tea Room</a>, where an elegant afternoon tea service unfolds amid mirrored wall panels and plush seating. <a href="https://www.thestregisbarsingapore.com/?DestinAsian" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The St. Regis Bar</a>, meanwhile, is a sexy makeover of the former Astor Bar, channeling early 20th-century Manhattan via suede banquettes, crystal sconces, and a towering spirits display in the form of brass birdcages. Strong on American classics merged with local flavors, head bartender Kelvin Saquilayan’s smartly crafted cocktail menu is headlined by the Straits Mary, a smoky iteration of the Bloody Mary that blends <em>bak kwa</em>­­–infused bourbon with chili padi, <em>sancho</em>, and a hit of <em>gochujang</em>.</p>

<p>With its eucalyptus-scented steam rooms, indoor/outdoor hot tubs, and cedarwood saunas, you could easily while away a few hours at the mood-lit <a href="https://www.marriott.com/en-us/hotels/sinxr-the-st-regis-singapore/spa/?DestinAsian" target="_blank" rel="noopener">St. Regis Spa</a>—and that’s before even settling in for a body treatment or oxygen facial. My 60-minute Aroma Journey was as blissful as it sounds, complete with a back massage using warm Himalayan salt stones. Guests can also look forward to luxurious manicures and pedicures designed by celebrity-approved British podiatrist Margaret Dabbs.</p>
<h6><strong>Family Matters</strong></h6>
<p>While there is no on-site playground or dedicated kids’ club, The St. Regis Singapore caters to families through rooms with two double beds, children’s amenities, and access to the Astor Library catalog of books. The outdoor swimming pool is family-friendly, and specialized packages can include in-room teepee tents.</p>
<h6><strong>Sustainability Cred</strong></h6>
<p>The hotel’s glow-up has enhanced its eco-ethos, with motion-activated LED lighting and potable water dispensers incorporated into each room. Guests can also delve into sustainable mixology during a zero-waste Bloody Mary cocktail class.</p>
<h6><strong>What Else?</strong></h6>
<p>Butler-led art tours are available each evening, providing detailed insight into the museum-quality collection assembled by Cecilia Kwek, whose husband’s Hong Leong Group is a principal owner of the hotel. Picasso lithographs and sculptures by the likes of William Zorach and Botero are complemented by the works of pioneers of the Nanyang style and contemporary Singaporean artists such as Chua Ek Kay, Anthony Poon, and Eng Tow.</p>
