Why stay?

InterContinental Phuket Resort has it all, from sunset beach views to mountain vistas. For family breaks or a romantic weekend away, this is luxe resort living on every level.

The area

Laid out on both sides of the 4030 Highway as it runs between Surin and Patong, the resort spans two sections, each with its own distinct personality. The coastal portion fronts Kamala Beach while much of the facilities and accommodations are located inland against a verdant forest backdrop. A well-lit tunnel under the road makes getting between the two areas an easy five-minute walk (you can also go by buggy). This is a resort that feels like a mini Thai destination in itself. Phuket town is about 20 minutes away by taxi.

The feel

Even though it’s a large property, InterContinental Phuket has managed to retain a boutique feel. Staff are unrushed and make even the tiresome necessity of checking in easy. The resort design is built around a narrative that runs through the ancient tale of Traibhumikata. The beach side mirrors the underwater world, the main lobby the human world, and the glittering walkway that leads to the Sawan Pavilion embodies heaven. This is not to say the resort feels themed. The design is a contemporary take on traditional Thai aesthetics and expertly melds several narratives into one cohesive design.

Guest Quarters

With a modern Thai-inspired decor, rooms are spacious and have an air of calm. Nights are peaceful with blackout curtains affording a deep sleep. By day, the floor-to-ceiling windows give plenty of light and private balconies provide an ideal space for an early morning coffee as you listen to the gentle rush of the waves or admire the lush green mountainside. The Club InterContinental Beach Wing offers 42 premium rooms and three one-bedroom beachfront suites, while the Kamala Mountain Wing features 151 classic rooms, 12 pool access lagoon villas, and 13 private pool villas (ranging from one- to three-bedroom options). Classic rooms give guests 41 square meters of space and the pool villas measure up at an impressive 360 square meters. A number of interconnecting rooms cater to those traveling with large families or groups of friends.

Food and drink

With no less than eight dining options at the resort, strolling through the tunnel from one side of the resort to the other feels like a more necessary mode of transport than taking the buggy. From fine dining at Hom housed in a spectacular building reminiscent of a Thai temple, to the excellent local flavors of Jaras, guests are spoiled for choice from morning to night; try the afternoon high tea at Devas Lounge in between. Those booking club rooms also have access to The Club InterContinental Lounge, a haven of urban serenity where you can catch up on work (if you have to) or simply enjoy a respite from the sun. It’s open every day from breakfast to cocktail hour.

Wellness factor

The Sati Spa, housed under Hom on the mountain side of the property, is a relaxing haven offering expert massages. The resort features five pools and a gym too. Club InterContinental members have exclusive access to a private infinity pool just off the club lounge.

Family matters

Children can revel in their own hangout: Planet Trekker Kids Club complete with playgrounds, reading corners, and a range of activities. The InterContinental Club is open to kids aged 12–17 if accompanied by an adult.

Sustainability cred

A trailblazer on the island’s sustainable hospitality scene, InterContinental Phuket Resort has attained a prestigious LEED Gold certification. It was the first hotel in Phuket to install a food waste composter (at a cost of 1.3 million THB or nearly US$39,800) to process almost 126 kilograms of food waste per day, which is turned into 750 kilograms of natural fertilizer a month. This is used onsite for landscaping and shared with the hotel’s partner farms and local community.
Along with the expected plastic-free amenities and wooden RFID keycards, the resort champions resource conservation with an on-site water plant, glass bottles, and a linen reuse program. Guests benefit from exceptional indoor air quality, abundant natural light, and low-emitting materials throughout. Energy efficiency is paramount, with LED lighting and smart controls cutting down on energy usage. EV charging points are a feature here too.

What else?

InterContinental Phuket Resort takes its social-environmental responsibility to the island and its local communities very seriously. Locally sourced ingredients and relationships with farms and producers have been long established and remain strong. In addition to championing their own sustainable efforts, the staff actively help other hotels across the island achieve the same.
