Phuket’s homegrown <a href="https://thedistilleryphuket.com/?DestinAsian">Chalong Bay distillery</a> has been going strong for a decade now. With its French copper column still, the facility produces some of Thailand’s favorite rums, including a classic version made from organic, first-press sugarcane; a collection of infused rums with flavors like lemongrass and Thai sweet basil; and one spiced with Southeast Asian botanicals. The distillery also turns out a gin that features local aromatics like makwean, the Thai cousin of numbing Sichuan peppercorns.
You’ll learn about how the spirits are made during an hour-long distillery tour. <a href="https://thedistilleryphuket.com/?DestinAsian">Chalong Bay</a> also runs cocktail making workshops that can be booked as a standalone activity or combined with a tour, which spotlights the brand’s commitment to support small producers who don’t burn their sugarcane fields—a common cause of air pollution across <a href="https://destinasian.com/category/thailand">Thailand</a>—and its insistence on using natural ingredients.
