John Hardy Seminyak Unveils “Ephemeral” Exhibition

Discover a tranquil haven on busy Jalan Petitenget that’s dedicated to celebrating art and Indonesian culture.

Visitors who step inside John Hardy Boutique and Gallery, Seminyak will find plenty of reasons to linger. The welcoming space is more than a showroom for a locally born jewelry brand rooted in the traditional artistry of Bali, a deep respect for both community and craftsmanship, and an eco-conscious outlook. Those values are expressed in the time-honored heritage cuisine served at the on-site dining venues, as well as the changing visual showcases displayed inside the gallery.

The newest exhibition, “Ephemeral”, is a collaboration with the Bali-based Kaleidoscopio.Studio, which focuses on the artisanal work of local creatives through its ongoing exploration of visual anthropology and aesthetic arts. The talented artists behind the studio have been guided by the foundational concept of impermanence. Drawing inspiration from the island’s singular culture and made with organic materials found in traditional Balinese rituals and ceremonies, the contemporary artworks featured in “Ephemeral” express the idea of fleeting beauty in a thought-provoking manner.

Kaleidoscopio.Studio gives each of its pieces a strong sense of place while combining the artistic mediums of sculpture, photography, and prints with window dressing design. The artworks and installations exhibited at the John Hardy Gallery all share a serene, meditative quality. One example is a raw terra-cotta bust of a Balinese woman crowned with a headdress woven in rattan and bamboo and a striking sunburst of dried, semi-transparent bodhi leaves. Each creation draws the viewer’s attention to the finer details, beckoning them to slow down and admire the delicate individual elements while reflecting on their fragile beauty.

John Hardy Bali also invites the wider community to celebrate both art and Indonesian culture through associated activities, including social events and a free cyanotype workshop. “Ephemeral” will be on show at John Hardy Boutique and Gallery, Seminyak until May 31, 2024. Entry is free and opening hours are from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.
