For <a href="https://staging.destinasian.com/travel-guide/macau">Macau</a>, it’s one of ostentation in a city where more is definitely better, being within one of two gleaming golden towers that flank the enshrouded driveway. Yet for all the flash and flamboyance, a quiet calmness washes over from the moment guests step through the curved entry—a promising start for a transformative stay. </span></p>
<h3><b>THE NEIGHBORHOOD </b></h3>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The crown jewel of Galaxy Macau’s behemoth portfolio, Capella at Galaxy Macau sits within the sprawling grounds of the integrated resort, counting esteemed names such as Banyan Tree, JW Marriott, The Ritz-Carlton, and Raffles as neighbors. Beyond the iconic Cotai strip, city attractions, including the Ruins of St. Paul and Taipa Village, require a more comprehensive commute other than walking and are located a short taxi ride away.</span></p>

<h4><b>THE FEEL </b></h4>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Working to the brief of a “residential sanctuary in Macau,” Paris-based design studio Moinard Betaille chose to reference the city’s subtropical landscape in a stylistic take called “The Gilded Jungle.” Expect to be enveloped in seclusion—homelike comforts are elevated with artisanal touches. From the ground-floor entry, the gentle trickle of running water and the sunburst arches of a golden tree-of-life welcome guests into a haven far removed from the city just outside, fading softly into the three-meter LED animation of the jungle by Hong Kong artist Laura Cheng, made in reference to her hand-painted silk wallpaper throughout the property. As night falls, the artwork shifts into the soft glow under moonlight, accompanied by ambient soundscapes and the occasional flash of shooting stars. The first-floor lobby emulates the luxurious living spaces of a dignified mansion, decorated with the contemporary works of designer Bruno Moinard. Dreamed up in tandem with his creative partner Claire Bétaille, the immersive spaces are an organic reflection of the rainforest’s ever-changing nature, discernible via considered details of curved edges and undulating motifs or abstract touches, such as light and airflow.</span></p>
<h5><b>GUEST QUARTERS</b></h5>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">It’s all about ultra-luxurious living with only suites and penthouses, and of these, there are just 95. Within are some of the largest rooms in the region, with “entry-level” one- and two-bedroom suites measuring a cavernous 128 square meters; these come kitted out with indoor relaxation pools and accompanying sun beds against floor-to-ceiling windows. Amazonite marble bathrooms are finished with red resin accents and portcullis doorways; there are gleaming rainfall showers and Santa Maria Novella amenities. As for bedrooms, canopy-like ceilings cocoon cloud-like mattresses and linens, with hand-finished jungle-themed wallpaper by Lala Curio. More impressively, though, is the four-bedroom penthouse’s expansive 700 square-meter footprint that blends indoor and outdoor living. Double glass doors slide open to an airy outdoor terrace, anchored by a jaw-dropping, 11-meter glass-walled infinity pool that overlooks the city, while adjacent rooms cater to interests of every kind, from a wellness space with fitness equipment and a custom scent machine, to a private, soundproofed theatre with a full karaoke set-up.</span></p>
<h6><b>FOOD AND DRINK</b></h6>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The in-room menu alone is an exhaustive, 47-page selection of room service classics—and an immense range of Chinese cuisine that includes regional dishes from China’s eight main cuisines. The hotel’s two restaurants and bar reflect a staunch commitment to delivering high-end experiences, with the eagerly awaited fine-dining concept by chef Vicky Cheng of Hong Kong’s Vea and Wing to be announced soon. For now, Pony &amp; Plume, an equestrian-themed whisky bar, is a treasure trove of over 650 whiskies, dramatically arranged according to eight flavor profiles. Mixologist Billy Choi also concocts specialty cocktails that reflect Macau’s distinct heritage. And at Botanica, the light-filled, all-day dining room led by executive chef Stephen Hsu, comforting international fare is served amid a serene backdrop of indoor water reflections and climbing botanicals.</span></p>
<h6><b>WELLNESS FACTOR</b></h6>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">There’s no on-site spa, and should the in-room jacuzzi prove insufficient for more extensive wellness routines, the property compensates with experienced Banyan Tree spa therapists and their remarkable knack for kneading knots and soothing tension for in-room sessions on request.</span></p>
<h6><b>FAMILY MATTERS</b></h6>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">While the Capella does not focus on the youngest travelers, two-bedroom penthouses come with a dedicated VIK (Very Important Kids) room for families with plush, cushioned flooring, cozy bean bags, and an imaginative selection of toys and games to keep them busy.</span></p>
<h6><b>WHAT ELSE?</b></h6>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Part of the universal Capella experience is the resourceful Capella Culturists, who meet every want or whim, which in Macau could include a helicopter ride over the city or walking food tours (part of the  Curates program). Or a visit to the signature Capella Living Room, which is a bright, sunshine-yellow salon with suspended circle panels that mimic canopy leaves. It’s the setting for engaging daily rituals such as tea ceremonies and <em>baijiu</em> tastings—with a special distillation made right here in Macau.</span></p>
