Ayurveda, <a href="https://destinasian.com/travel-guide/india" target="_blank" rel="noopener">India</a>’s ancient holistic health system, has been a pillar of the international wellness scene for decades, but as spa junkies focus increasingly on longevity, it was only a matter of time before someone had the bright idea to marry science and spirituality in its birthplace.
Enter <a href="https://tulah.life/?DestinAsian" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Tulah</a>, a cutting-edge spa sanctuary and medical clinic rolled stylishly into one outside Calicut on the Kerala coast, bankrolled by Keralan-born billionaire industrialist Faizal Kottikollon. He clearly hasn’t stinted. The space-age resort drapes leisurely across a 12-hectare campus, including a main wellness complex with 65 minimalist bedrooms, as well as arts and education centers, a 120-meter pool, and mini golf, padel, pickleball, and tennis courts dotted through grounds landscaped with healing plants.
Given it costs from US$11,200 for a weeklong reset, the place attracts a sophisticated international crowd. Stays start with a day of advanced diagnostics, lifestyle analysis, and performance testing that Tulah’s multidisciplinary team of Eastern- and Western-trained doctors use to design highly personalized wellness programs based on the individual’s aims and issues. Food is tailored too, with a nutritionist creating bespoke menus of international and Asian dishes for each guest.
The medics have an impressive array of high-tech equipment at their disposal for everything from genetic profiling and MRIs to laser therapy, cryotherapy, and hyperbaric oxygen therapy. There’s even an operating theater and intensive care unit. Kottikollon hasn’t forgotten his roots, though, so guests are also treated to excellent Ayurvedic therapies in the glamorous 14-room spa, with daily meditation, yoga classes, and live cultural performances on the agenda.
Fittingly, one of the most memorable features of Tulah is its sound dome, billed as the world’s largest. It translates millennia-old sacred mantras—devised to replicate the universe’s healing vibrations—into a thoroughly modern experience through site-specific instruments whose therapeutic frequencies were carefully engineered to achieve tonal coherence. The space epitomizes Tulah’s ambition to unite old and new in perfect harmony.
