Dior’s new flagship in China is a sculptural temple to French elegance and savoir faire.

Rising from Beijing’s Sanlitun quarter like a botanical sculpture caught mid-bloom, the facade of Parisian architect Christian de Portzamparc’s latest commission for Dior features 14 twisting white resin “petals,” punctuated by walls of golden glass tiles that recall the imperial hue once reserved for <a href="https://destinasian.com/travel-guide/china" target="_blank" rel="noopener">China</a>’s rulers. It’s the Pritzker Prize laureate’s third collaboration with the French fashion house, after Seoul and Geneva, and arguably his most ambitious. Yet what distinguishes <a href="https://www.dior.com/fashion/stores/en_id/china/beijing/room-n6-no.-11-sanlitun-road-876372?DestinAsian" target="_blank" rel="noopener">House of Dior Beijing</a> isn’t merely scale, but timing. Jonathan Anderson’s arrival as the company’s new creative director—and the first designer since Christian Dior himself to oversee women’s wear, men’s wear, and couture simultaneously—makes this a showcase for his debut collections.
The five-story structure presents the full Dior universe, headlined by Anderson’s reinterpretation of house codes such as the Lady Dior bag and Bar Jacket through a distinctly contemporary lens that speaks to China’s younger luxury consumers. Its address in Taikoo Li Sanlitun North alongside new flagships for Louis Vuitton, Tiffany, and Hermès also signals a stubborn confidence in China’s luxury recovery. After dark, the building glows from within, its petals—shaped to evoke both the drape of fabrics and the classical elegance of the caryatids of Athens’ ancient Acropolis—silhouetted against Sanlitun’s neon sprawl.
Inside, there is plenty to command attention, not least Michelin-lauded chef Anne-Sophie Pic’s Monsieur Dior restaurant, a ground-level space with a separate entrance enabling access beyond retail hours. A circular white staircase ascends through floors devoted to women’s wear and men’s collections, culminating in VIP salons where hand-embroidered dandelions bloom across wall panels. Works by Chinese artists Xu Zhen, Wang Xiyao, and Hong Hao animate the interiors, while furniture from Claude Lalanne and Franck Evennou bridges Paris and Beijing across decades of design history.
