<h2><strong>Why stay?</strong></h2>
<p>Amid the frenzied hubbub of the Thai capital, the Four Seasons Bangkok is a hushed sanctuary that dazzles with its scale and contemporary grandeur. Eminent Belgian architect Jean-Michel Gathy has worked his magic both inside and out: the glamorous interiors segue into tranquil courtyards that step down to a tiered resort-like pool above the Chao Phraya River. Adding to the wow factor are a standout cocktail bar and clutch of fine restaurants (most designed by global studio AvroKo). There’s also a comprehensive wellness center, so you’ll lack for nothing at this stylish riverside retreat.</p>
<h3><strong>The neighborhood</strong></h3>
<p>Four Seasons Bangkok occupies one wing of the mixed-use Chao Phraya Estate, located downstream of busy Saphan Taksin — the key transport hub at the western end of the Sathorn commercial area. Out back is Charoenkrung, which cuts through an area filled with old-school eateries and mom-and-pop stores. The historic artery also gives its name to the thriving creative district further north. The hotel’s shuttle boats are on hand to whisk guests to Sathorn Pier (a departure point for ferries and river cruises) and the high-end Iconsiam mall on the opposite bank.</p>

<h4><strong>The feel</strong></h4>
<p>Creative local touches lend character to the Four Seasons’ sleek and unashamedly modern look. Inside the nine-meter-high arrival lobby, which faces a reflecting pond, two wall-art pieces by sculptor Pongsatat “Dong” Uaiklang mimic the folds of fabric and come adorned with elephant bas-reliefs. The ground-floor public areas become progressively more open the closer they are to the riverfront. Positioned along the route are more large-scale artworks including a stylized map of the Chao Phraya and a semi-outdoor ceiling installation that catches the light reflected off the pools below.</p>
<h5><strong>Guest quarters</strong></h5>
<p>The sense of space also extends to the 261 guest rooms and 38 suites. Tastefully appointed with soft furnishings by Jim Thompson, modern Thai ceramics, and a huge Chromecast-enabled flat-screen TV, the sleek accommodations start from a generous 50 square meters. All are done up in muted tones and have floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the courtyards or the Chao Phraya. Sliding doors screen off the sleeping area from spa-like bathrooms that feature deep soaking tubs and double vanities. Opt for one of the river-view rooms or suites (some of the latter come with expansive rooftop terraces), where a window-side chaise longue offers the perfect spot to recline and watch the boats go by.</p>
<h6><strong>Food and drink</strong></h6>
<p>Four Seasons Bangkok is home to <a href="https://destinasian.com/bkk-social-club" target="_blank" rel="noopener">BKK Social Club</a>, one of Asia’s top-rated cocktail bars and arguably the most fashionable (and beautiful) drinking den in town. Try signature pours like the negroni-esque Hand of God and the rum-based Jardin, whose almost Christmassy flavor comes from a blend of <em>yerba mate</em>, spices, milk, and fruits. On the dining front, the other ace in its hole is the Gathy-designed Yu Ting Yuan, a Cantonese restaurant that deserves more than its current one-Michelin-star rating. Chef Tommy Cheung and his team turn out superb wok-fried dishes such as chocolate-fed Mayura beef in black bean sauce and Boston lobster atop crispy noodles made with krill; the double-boiled fish maw soup and smoky X.O. crabmeat fried rice are just as delicious. Closer to the river, Italian eatery Riva del Fiume doubles as a breakfast venue (don’t skip the excellent buffet). Seasonal dishes star on the lunch and dinner menus: think deep-fried artichoke heart with herb sabayon, and seafood <em>guazzetto</em> accompanied by <em>maccheroncini al ferretto</em> pasta in trumpet zucchini sauce. Café Madeleine excels at pastries and indulgent desserts, while riverfront French brasserie Palmier by Guillaume Galliot — whose namesake chef helms three-Michelin-starred <a href="https://destinasian.com/caprice" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Caprice</a> at <a href="https://destinasian.com/four-seasons-hotel-hong-kong" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Four Seasons Hong Kong</a> — plates up elevated bistro fare.</p>

<h6><strong>Wellness factor</strong></h6>
<p>Arranged around a palm-studded courtyard, Four Seasons Bangkok’s 2,500-square-meter Urban Wellness Center has its own outdoor pool for doing laps and aquarobics workouts. Apart from nine treatment rooms and a yoga studio, you’ll find a fitness center stocked with Technogym equipment, a hair salon and nail bar, and the Bangkok outpost of London-born grooming brand Gentlemen’s Tonic. The extensive spa menu features everything from high-tech facials to locally inspired treatments like a deep-tissue massage using bamboo sticks. Visiting wellness practitioners share their expertise in private or group sessions.</p>
<h6><strong>Family matters</strong></h6>
<p>Junior guests are pampered with children’s toiletries and bathrobes, special menus at all hotel restaurants, and the complimentary Kids for All Seasons program at the pool-level kids’ club, which opens daily. Over at the wellness hub, an hourlong Muay Thai and fitness class is available for those aged six to 12. Babysitting can be arranged through the concierge.</p>
<h6><strong>Sustainability cred</strong></h6>
<p>An in-house water bottling plant and large-format Byredo bath products ensure that rooms are free of single-use plastics. Guest quarters also incorporate smart, energy-efficient features such as automatic shades, while an on-site treatment plant reclaims wastewater to irrigate the gardens. The hotel is planning to deploy an electric shuttle boat and install solar panels with the goal of supplying 25 percent of its total energy needs.</p>
<h6><strong>What else?</strong></h6>
<p>Local creative talent takes center stage at the dedicated ART Space, which hosts quarterly changing exhibitions curated by Bangkok’s Museum of Contemporary Art. The gallery is accessible from both the lobby and riverfront pool area. Off-site, Four Seasons guests can book tailor-made excursions around town, be it a tour of historic canals aboard the hotel’s private boat or an afternoon spent gallery-hopping by tuk-tuk.</p>
