Opened as a younger offshoot of long-standing antiques dealer Lek Gallery next door, <a href="https://www.instagram.com/att19.bkk/?hl=en?destinasian">ATT 19</a>, the concept store-slash-art hub in the heart of Charoenkrung has been a major driving force in the renaissance of Bangkok’s creative district. Under the guidance of founder and creative director Mook Attakanwong, the gallery reclaimed a century-old Chinese school building, whose original features, such as the wooden ceiling beams and exposed brick walls, have deliberately been kept unchanged.
Behind a wooden entrance flanked by a pair of hand-painted Chinese deities, the gallery unfolds like a treasure trove of one-of-a-kind pieces (sold at surprisingly affordable prices). There are shelves lined with Japanese pottery and glass vases in a rainbow of colors; wooden cabinets display everything from chunky African jewelry to Thai wickerwork and pan-Asian lacquerware. Attakanwong’s education as a fashion designer shines through in the meticulously curated collection of vintage handbags, coats, and shimmery dresses that take over one wing of the ground floor, while her interior-styling skills manifest in the tasteful fusion of Qing-era antiques and contemporary art pieces. The exhibition space upstairs regularly brings in art and performances by emerging artists from Bangkok and beyond. —Chris Schalkx
