Martinique-born Nora Gasparini launched L’Atelier back in 2009 to share her passion for scents and Indonesia’s incredible biodiversity with everyday visitors to her adopted island home. The charismatic French “nose” and her personally trained assistants utilize a cornucopia of handpicked ingredients sourced from across the archipelago, including agarwood, patchouli, and ylang-ylang, alongside indigenous spices like clove and nutmeg. If the very idea of perfume-making sounds intimidating, don’t fret: Gasparini has developed her own foolproof method that allows beginners to create a balanced composition of top, heart, and base notes from a short personality questionnaire. You’ll come away with not just a newfound appreciation for the craft, but also a carefully packaged spray bottle of your bespoke fragrance—something to reserve for special occasions. L’Atelier currently runs daily workshops at Seminyak’s TS Suites hotel and in Grand Hyatt Bali resort in Nusa Dua; both studios are open to non-resident guests.
