The mellow metallic sound of a gong gently awakens me from a surprisingly deep 20 minutes of slumber; proving I’m an A* student at the sleep therapy for the mind session. Or maybe it was a fail, since the 60 minute session is all about sleep meditation; not sleep.
Combining breathing techniques with Nidra yoga to guide mind and body to a completely relaxed state, the session is accompanied by soothing local music, encouraging guests to destress and decompress from the moment they arrive.

<h2>Simply breathe</h2>

The first step in sleep therapy for the mind is a set of gentle stretching and breathing exercises to calm racing thoughts and release any pent up stress or anxiety. The therapist guides guests through breathing exercises and self massage techniques to promote progressive muscle relaxation and ensure that restful nights ensue. Despite feeling relaxed when the session started, my body told me otherwise. Holding my breath for seven seconds was a challenge, but by the third round of breathing exercises, holding it for more than 20 seconds, then 30 seconds became easy. At one point I was so relaxed I couldn&#8217;t even remember the difference between inhale and exhale!
In addition to sleep therapy, Mandapa’s new program offers an immersion in transformative wellness experiences and disciplines that may be new to many including Watsu (aquatic therapy), gong bath therapy, sleep therapy and Vipassana (meditation).
Perched on the banks of the Ayung River in Ubud, the soothing movement of the water provides a relaxing soundtrack to Mandapa’s spa where guests not only enjoy restorative treatments but also a relaxing afternoon tea and a quiet area for contemplation.

A languorous massage is one of the perks of a schedule free vacation and the Blissful Marma massage delivers. Starting with a foot wash ritual overlooking the river, this is 90 minutes of pure relaxation which combines firm flowing techniques with marma therapy and chakra balance to align energy centers.
If it’s a reset you’re after then there’s no better place to start than here. As the driver turns off the main road into a small driveway you will be forgiven for thinking you’re lost. Then two enormous gates open onto another world. Think Jumanji meets Jurassic Park, without fierce or poisonous creatures. Lush vegetation abounds in this mini village of verdant greens, where butterflies flit and birds swoop. It’s quite simply film-set perfect.
