<p>Informal, relaxed luxury is the name of the game at the latest in a trilogy of Tokyo hotels by forward-thinking entrepreneur Yoshitaka Nojiri. Located across the street from the verdant grounds of its namesake green space, Trunk(Hotel) Yoyogi Park brings his vision of a uniquely Japanese boutique hospitality brand to Shibuya’s hip yet low-key Tomigaya neighborhood.</p>
<p>Behind a brutalist facade softened by potted trees and plants on the outdoor balconies, the intimately scaled property is a minimalistic refuge where guests can rest and recharge amid the Japanese capital’s sprawling cityscape. Inside, a refined Japanese style and Scandinavian aesthetics merge seamlessly in the 25 residential-style guest rooms and suites. All accommodations at the luxury hotel feature a neutral palette that incorporates natural materials like wood and stone, as well as thoughtfully designed bespoke furnishings such as <em>washi</em> paper pendant lights. Understated yet playful, it’s an elegant expression of contemporary Japanese culture.</p>
<p>The hotel’s rooftop infinity pool, a rarity in Tokyo, overlooks the treetops of Yoyogi Park. Heated and open all year round, it sits beside the sixth-floor Trunk(Pool Club), a guests-only lounge complete with an oyster and cocktail bar — just the place to enjoy fine seafood washed down with innovative tipples. Open to the public, convivial ground-floor restaurant Pizzeria e Trattoria L’Ombelico plates up modern Italian fare. A wood-fired oven at its heart turns out authentic Neapolitan pizzas, and a pet-friendly terrace beckons for local residents with pooches in tow.</p>

<p>The Trunk brand’s deep emphasis on community and local creativity encourages guests to plug into the immediate surroundings in a meaningful way. Off-site activities organized by attentive staff members include calligraphy classes, visits to Shinto shrines, and more. Shibuya Station and the famous scramble crossing are within walking distance, as are Harajuku’s buzzing streets and tranquil Meiji Shrine. A four-minute walk from the front door will bring you to the Yoyogi-Koen station on the Tokyo Metro Chiyoda Line, promising easy access to places of interest farther afield.</p>
<p>Trunk(Hotel) Yoyogi Park’s sister properties include the 15-room Trunk(Hotel) Cat Street, also in Shibuya; and the exclusive one-room Trunk(House), which occupies a former geisha house in Kagurazaka, one of Tokyo’s most traditional neighborhoods.</p>
