The John Hardy name has long been associated with an energy, creativity, and style that honors both the jewelry trade and Balinese culture. The Long Table Indonesian restaurant, tucked away on the lower level of John Hardy’s <a href="https://destinasian.com/bali-attractions-john-hardy-boutique-gallery-at-seminyak" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Seminyak boutique</a>, is no exception. Guests walk through a showroom sparkling with the brand’s naga dragon and bamboo lines to a sunlit rear deck and bar for cocktails (try the Holy Water concoction made from local gin, rum, lime, and lemon basil leaves). Then it’s downstairs to a dining room with a gorgeous garden aspect and a namesake central long table artfully laid with ceramic dishes, rattan placemats, matte-gold cutlery and gleaming Reidel glassware.
Chef Tomy Saputra’s set menu is, like the table, designed for sharing starting with krupuk served with traditional sambals inspired by recipes from across the archipelago, and finishing with showstopper Indonesian hawker dessert es campur, an ice concoction shaved tableside and served with jellies, fruits, and syrups. In between, six exquisite main dishes include iga bakar, or Sumatran marinated beef short ribs braised on the open grill and served with a green tomato and shallot sauce, and classic Balinese jukut kelor mesanten, a soup made from coconut cream and moringa leaves and cooked inside a young coconut. The drink pairings—including a Bali Sababay sparkling wine, Japanese junmai gingo sake, and New Zealand sauvignon blanc—are daringly diverse, but they go down a treat.  —Penny Watson
