Attraction

Tall Order
The last 12 months have not been the greatest for Dubai. Still, the emirate began 2010 on a high note with the opening of the Burj Khalifa (burjdubai.com).

The 828-meter-high skyscraper will enter the record books not only as the world’s tallest building, but also as having the highest mosque (on level 158, two floors shy of the crest) and the most elevated observation deck, At The Top, set on the 124th floor. You’ll be whisked there in a high-speed elevator moving at an ear-popping 10 meters per second, and although the journey is brief, entertainment is provided by an in-lift multimedia presentation detailing the tower’s development. Come back in March for the opening of the first Armani Hotel—it won’t knock the Park Hyatt Shanghai off its mantle as the world’s loftiest lodgings, but its designer surrounds will offer eye candy of a different variety.
